কোহলিকে সেরা ব্যাটসম্যান বলে দাবি করেন ভারতীয়রা কিন্তু সেরা অধিনায়ক হিসাবে মানতে পারেন না তারা। সেরা অধিনায়ক হিসাবে ৫ বার আইপিএল জয়ী রোহিতকেই সবার ওপরে রেখেছেন। কেউ কেউ আবার দাবি করেছেন অন্তত রঙিন পোশাকের অধিনায়কত্বের দায়িত্ব যেন এবার রোহিতের হাতে তুলে দেওয়া হয়।

কোহলি অধিনায়ক থাকাকালীন ভারত বড় কোনো ট্রফি জিততে পারবে না- এমন মন্তব্যও করেছেন তারা। কেউ বা আবার কোহলিকে উল্লেখ করে বলেছেন অধিনায়কত্বের ব্যাপারে রোহিতের কাছে কিছু শিখতে। তারা সবাই বিসিসিআইয়ের কাছে জোর দাবি করেছেন রোহিতকে অধিনায়ক বানানোর জন্য।
